Beginner Spanish · A new everyday setting
Begin simple conversations in a new place.
Practise introducing yourself, asking a basic question and requesting clarification as you settle into everyday routines.
The free tasks need no account, email or payment. Relocation examples are one context for the same planned beginner course.
Planned · not yet open

Start with manageable everyday interactions.
Meet someone
Greet a neighbour, say your name and ask theirs.
Ask in a shop
Ask whether they have something and how much it costs.
Find a place
Ask where the pharmacy or the bus stop is.
The focus is beginner questions and clarification. Appointments, paperwork and full directions are outside this short practice scope.
Useful phrases
Four questions for your first weeks.
| Spanish | English |
|---|---|
| Buenos días. / Buenas tardes. | Good morning. / Good afternoon. |
| Disculpe. | Excuse me. (polite, to get attention) |
| ¿Dónde está la parada de autobús? | Where is the bus stop? |
| ¿Tiene una bolsa? | Do you have a bag? |
| ¿Puede escribirlo, por favor? | Can you write it down, please? |
| Estoy aprendiendo español. | I am learning Spanish. |
| Soy nuevo aquí. / Soy nueva aquí. | I am new here. (a man / a woman) |
Swap the noun to fit your day: la farmacia, el supermercado, la estación.
Keep it polite with usted.
With shop staff, officials and people you do not know, the polite singular form (usted) is a safe default. You can hear it in the verb:
| Polite (usted) | Familiar (tú) |
|---|---|
| ¿Puede repetir? | ¿Puedes repetir? |
| ¿Tiene pan? | ¿Tienes pan? |
How quickly people switch to tú varies by country, region and age. If someone uses tú with you, it is usually fine to answer the same way. Prices and currencies also vary: the dialogue below uses euros, but you might hear pesos or another currency.
Try a free shop task.
| Spanish | English |
|---|---|
| A: Buenos días. ¿Tiene pan? | A: Good morning. Do you have bread? |
| B: Sí, claro. | B: Yes, of course. |
| A: ¿Cuánto cuesta? | A: How much does it cost? |
| B: Dos euros con cincuenta. | B: Two euros fifty. |
| A: Perdón, ¿puede repetir, por favor? | A: Sorry, can you repeat, please? |
| B: Dos euros con cincuenta. | B: Two euros fifty. |
| A: Gracias. | A: Thank you. |
Make it yours.
Read both roles, cover one line and try to recall it. Change pan to agua (water) or leche (milk). If a number is hard to catch, add ¿Puede escribirlo, por favor?
